Steven “Steve” Dean Shafer, 66 of Dumas passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Monday, September 28, 2026. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Zane Powers, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Steve was born December 15,1959, in Alva, Oklahoma to Jack Dean and Norma Jean Smith Shafer. He attended grade school for two years in Alva. He graduated from Keyes High School where he participated in sports and other activities. He would tell others that he graduated in the top 20 of his class which sounds impressive. He would then laugh and explain that there were only 20 students in his graduating class. After graduation he attended Texas Tech Industrial College in Amarillo, TX. He then went to work for Colorado Interstate Gas Company in Keyes, Oklahoma. He has worked for 46 years with the company.

In 1982 he married Lorie Daves. After their marriage Steve transferred to Wamsutter, Wyoming. The couple spent seven years in Wyoming until he transferred to Dumas, Texas in 1989. Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dumas, TX. He coached little league softball for approximately 20 years and even coached his oldest granddaughter in Tee ball.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Jack Shafer, two infant sisters Debra Jean Shafer and Peggy Jean Shafer.

He is survived by his wife, Lorie Daves Shafer of the home, daughters: Heather Norris and husband Tyler of Dumas, Texas, and Haley Minshew and husband Kolby of Canyon, Texas; and grandchildren: Kymbree and Kelsee Norris; his mother Norma Shafer; his sister: Sally Jenkins and husband Daniel and family.
