Terry Lee Smith, born on November 23, 1950, in Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on February 26, 2026, in Dumas, Texas. A memorial service will be held on March 7, 2026, at Christ Community Church in Dumas, Texas, beginning at 11 o'clock in the morning with Pastor Chauncey Spencer officiating. This will be a time for family and friends to gather, share memories, and honor the life of a remarkable man.

He was appreciated by many for his lifelong commitment to law enforcement and service to his community. Terry dedicated 40 years of his professional life to law enforcement, serving with distinction at the Stratford Police Department, Dumas Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and as the Criminal Investigator for the County Attorney. His most recent position was with the Sunray Police Department, where he continued to embody the values of justice and integrity.

A proud graduate of Dumas High School, Terry was known for his strong work ethic and his unwavering dedication to those he served. He was a member of Christ Community Church, a reflection of his cherished faith and support within the community.

On October 10, 1980, Terry married the love of his life, Terri Elliott, in Amarillo, Texas. Together, they built a loving family, and Terry took immense pride in his roles as a husband and father. He is survived by his devoted wife Terri Smith; daughters Darlise Powell and Chanda Morris; daughter-in-law Heather Smith; grandchildren Haygen Smith, Stratton Smith, Raegan Stapleton, Trevor Powell, Kayla Matar and Zandalyn Morris; and brother Ted Smith.

Terry held a multitude of interests and hobbies, including his passion for welding, specifically with horseshoes and railroad spikes. His creativity and craftsmanship brought joy to his life and those around him.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son Travis Smith, and his sister Patricia Ann. His legacy of service, love, and creativity will forever be remembered by his family and the entire community.
