Vanell "Nell" Close Patterson

Vanell, “Nell,” Close Patterson, 86, of Spearman, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022. A private family service was held at the family cemetery Friday, September 23, 2022, with Brother Michael Renni officiating.

Nell was born February 6, 1936, in Spearman, to Vance and Marie Close. In 1954, Nell married L.M., “Sonny,” Patterson, Jr. They made their home south of Spearman on the ranch where they raised three children. Nell loved the outdoors, gardening, animals and was a renowned artist. She traveled to many art shows with her bronze sculptures, had many avid collectors of her work and was featured in galleries throughout the Southwest.

Nell was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Sonny.

Survivors include one son, Bailey Lee Patterson of Spearman, two daughters, Cindy Russell and husband Lem of Stratford and Mindy Patterson of Claude. Two grandchildren include Rustin Russell and wife Marie of Stratford, and Sunny Dueland and husband Jake of Stratford. Great-grandchildren include Lee, Amy, and Emma Russell and Parker Dueland, all of Stratford. She is also survived by her sister, Lynette Feeler, and husband, Edward, of Clyde, and nieces Stacy and Vickie.
