Wanda Stokes

Wanda Marion Stokes, 88 of Dumas passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at First Methodist Church, with Rev. Darrell Wait, officiating. A private family graveside will be held at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 o’clock to 7 o’clock in the evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Wanda was born on August 12, 1935 in Richwood, OH to William and Thelma (Oberdier) Ruhl.  She was united in marriage to Jimmy Stokes on August 11, 1956 in Dallas, TX.  The couple moved to Dumas in 1963 where they raised their children and made their home.   Jimmy preceded her in death in 2016.   Wanda was a registered nurse and was instrumental in starting Memorial Hospice in Dumas, TX.  She was named Memorial Hospice Volunteer of the Year in 1991, Community Woman of the Year by BP&W in 1991, received the 7 Who Care Award in 1992, and was Moore County Citizen of the year in 1997. Most recently she volunteered with Meals on Wheels three times a week. Wanda was an avid reader and passed her love of thrifting to her granddaughters. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Dumas, TX.

In addition to her husband, Jimmy she was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Inez Pirie.

Wanda is survived by her daughters: Pam White and husband Gary of Dumas, TX, Stacy Stokes of Thomasville, GA; son: Craig Stokes of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: Brittney Seaton, Jayci Stokes, Mackenzi Stokes, Cliff White, Casey White, Christy White; 7 great-grandchildren; nieces: Rae Madia and Sherri Nutt and other extended family members.
