Warren DeWayne “Buddy” Trent, 77, of Dumas, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, following a lengthy illness. His faith, devotion to family, and lifelong commitment to serving others left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Zane Powers officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 o'clock to 6 o'clock in the evening on Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors.
Buddy was born on May 11, 1949, in Perryton, Texas, to Warren and Mary Lou Trent. He was raised on a farm and ranch near Hardesty, Oklahoma, alongside his brother, Danny, and sister, Sandra. Growing up, the family worked together tending crops taking care of livestock and faithfully attended Bethel Baptist Church. One of Buddy’s fondest childhood memories was attending Gibson Church Camp, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a young man. His faith remained a guiding force throughout his life.
A 1967 graduate of Hardesty High School, Buddy was an active member of FFA and enjoyed participating in and supporting school sports. He continued his education at Panhandle State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, a Master’s Degree in Accounting, and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science. On March 20, 1971, he married Kathy Bitner in Walsh, Colorado. Together they built a loving marriage and lifelong friendship that spanned more than five decades.
Throughout his professional career, Buddy worked for the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority and Continental Grain. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to excellence in every role he undertook.
Beyond his career, Buddy dedicated much of his life to serving his church and community. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, he willingly supported youth programs and church activities wherever help was needed. He was an active member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club, serving as Tail Twister and earning numerous awards in recognition of his dedication and service.
Buddy treasured local traditions and community gatherings. He looked forward each year to the Dogie Day Barbecue and took great pride in operating the Senior Citizens line. Most recently, he served on the board of Moore County Senior Citizens Center as president, where he enjoyed drinking coffee, eating lunch, and the daily fellowship with many dear friends. He also volunteered at the Moore County Museum and especially enjoyed participating in Night at the Museum events. Whether through leadership roles or simple acts of service, Buddy believed in showing up, lending a hand, and making his community a better place by adding laughter and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Mary Lou Trent; his sister, Sandra TeBeest; and his brother-in-law, Gerald TeBeest.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Kathy Trent of Dumas; daughter, Kristina Joslyn and husband Jason of Dumas; son, Brian Trent and wife Kim of Bushland; grandchildren, Brendon Trent and wife Lupita and their children, Ethan and Harper; Ashlyn Joslyn and her son, Connor Fannon; Daxton Joslyn and wife Savana and their son, Ezarai Rodriguez; Austin Trent and wife Maggie; and Lindsey Trent. He is also survived by his brother, Danny Trent and wife Cindy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends.
Buddy will be remembered for his infectious laughter, unwavering faith, servant’s heart, and genuine love for people. His dedication to his family, church, and community created a legacy that will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all whose lives he touched.
