William Hamilton

William Thomas Hamilton, 75, of Dumas died Saturday, August 26, 2017. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at First Street Church with Art Lynch officiating. Burial will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be in Morrison Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Morrison Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. William was born March 30, 1942 in Denison, Texas to Ida and Forrest Hamilton. He married Lyla Gay Lewis on June 30, 1960. William and Lyla were faithful members of First Street Church of Christ for many years. They were involved in the bus ministry, VBS, Bible Bowl, and William also served as a deacon and elder. They were foster parents through High Plains Children's Home for several years. At times, they had three foster children in their home along with their children. William was a self-employed painting contractor in Dumas and has painted many houses, businesses and plants in the Dumas area. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lyla, two sisters, Wilma and Florine, two brothers, Pete and Raymond, and a granddaughter, Kristene. Survivors include four children, Brenda Johnson and husband, Steve, Kent Hamilton and wife, Tanya, Chris Hamilton and wife, Nancy, and Paula Gross and husband, Troy; six grandchildren, Tommy and Vanessa, Aaron, Mitchell, Nick, John, and Jeff; one great-granddaughter, Abby; his sister, Marelda Adams and husband, John; sister-in-law, Lana Kerbow and husband, Steve and their son, Paul; and many other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, PO Box 7448, Amarillo, Texas 79114. Please sign the online guest registry at www.brooksfuneral.com.
